Ball Joints

Ball joints are the swivel point between the steering and the suspension. More specifically, they are the point of contact between the control arm to the steering knuckle. Like your shoulder, the round end or “ball” is allowed a full range of mobility in its socket. This is important because it allows for 360° movement enabling your car to turn.

Ball joints typically last a long time but should be inspected per the suggestion of the vehicle’s owners manual or warranty recommendation. Poor road conditions, especially pot holes, cause a lot of wear and stress on ball joints. In addition to the suggested periodic check-up, here are some possible warning signs of a faulty ball joint:

• Uneven wear of tires
• Vibration/clunking noise from the area
• Car pulling one direction
